Dr Chinsky was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and has spent his entire professional career practicing in Erie, PA with Chest Diseases of Northwestern PA. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Critical Care Medicine. Stephen P Kovacs, DO

Born in Erie, PA, Dr Kovacs did his undergraduate work at Gannon University. He graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biology as well as minors in chemistry, history, and philosophy. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2003 and stayed at the PCOM Hospital Consortium for his residency on internal medicine. While there, he served as both Chief Intern and Chief Resident winning the awards of Intern of the Year as well as Resident of the Year. Dr. Kovacs did his Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine/Hahnemann University Hospital. He served as Chief Fellow during his second year of fellowship. Dr. Kovacs moved back to Erie in 2009 as a member of Chest Diseases of Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kovacs has special interests in Pulmonary Physiology, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Lung Cancer, and Interventional Bronchoscopy. In 2010, he helped bring Electromagnetic Navigational Bronchoscopy to the Erie area and Endobronchial Ultrasound in 2012. These technologies help to diagnose lung cancer in it's earliest and most treatable stages. He is considered one of the foremost experts on Electromagnetic Navigational Bronchoscopy and both trains and lectures physicians on this technology across the country. He is also the medical director of the Lung Cancer Screening programs at both UPMC Hamot and St Vincent Health Center.

Dr. Mercado is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He spent the last year of his medical school at the Mayo School of Medicine as well as the University of Miami. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he found an interest in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr Mercado concluded his training at Drexel University College of Medicine/Hahnemann University Hospital. During his training, he found a special interest in Pulmonary hypertension and conducted clinical and molecular research at the University of Pennsylvania in Pulmonary Hypertension. He is ABIM board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine.

Thomas Johnson

Thomas Johnson PA-C, MSPAS completed his undergraduate studies at Salisbury University in Maryland. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Environmental Health and a minor in Chemistry. He then went on to graduate school at Gannon University, where he was awarded a Master’s degree as a Physician Assistant. He is board certified and licensed to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. He has been practicing as a Physician Assistant at Chest Diseases of Northwest PA since 2004 and has significant expertise in treating complex pulmonary and sleep disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
